Google Assistant now supports video doorbells
Google has announced that its Assistant will now work with third-party video doorbells. So video doorbell manufacturers can make their devices compatible with Google’s smart sidekick.
Video doorbells
Google wants to make it easier for video doorbell manufacturers to develop integrations with the Google Assistant. Google already has a long list of types of devices that work with the Assistant and to that is added the video doorbell, 9To5Google discovered that. On this, only Google’s own Nest Hello doorbell is supported by the voice assistant.
Now Google has also adapted the Assistant API to the way the video doorbell works. The Assistant integration focuses on the two main uses of the video doorbell. On the one hand, you will be told when someone rings the doorbell, but we are also increasingly seeing that the doorbell is already being used by a security camera. You can request images of what is happening at the front door whenever you want, and you will also receive notifications.

Requirements
According to Google’s Smart Home Doorbell Guide, smart doorbells can at least perform all those tasks with the Google Assistant integration. They will then automatically resemble the Nest Hello doorbell. Although this is an important footnote, because Google does have minimum requirements for the Assistant integration to function properly. The latency, or network delay, of the doorbell must not exceed two seconds with a reliability of at least 97 percent.
We recently asked our readers in an AW Poll who already has a video doorbell at home. It showed that 34 percent have one and 32 percent indicate that they are interested in buying one. do you already have a smart doorbell at home? If yes which one?
