Google app keeps crashing continuously on many Android phones

The Google app continues to crash for a lot of people and also on the Androidworld editors. Updating the app won’t fix the issues for now, but there is already a temporary fix for the issue.

Google app crashes

The Google app shows issues on many phones. The app crashes after starting, the app crashes immediately or can’t even be started at all. The complaints are pouring in to our email, to our Telegram group, to us Twitteraccount and also in the Play Store with the Google app itself it is raining complaints. So you can no longer search with the Google app, read news items in Google Discover on the right-most screen or use the Google Assistant on your phone.

On my phone, Google keeps stopping (news) every few minutes. Nothing helps. Clear cache, etc. not.

Last week you had an article regarding Gmail sync issues. Now it’s the turn of the Google app itself: keeps crashing with a millisecond notification that Google keeps stopping.
A sampling of the comments accompanying the app shows that many people have the problem. I wonder if it’s local or worldwide: couldn’t find anything on the internet yet.

A temporary solution

There is now much speculation in our Telegram group about possible solutions. With one the update of the Google app works, with the other the problems remain after that. Also deleting the cache of the app followed by a restart does not seem to offer a solution.

Another uninstalled the updates from the app and the app continued to work until new updates are installed. This also applies to several people in the group, as long as you do not install new updates for the Google app, the app will continue to work. Of course this is not a solution and we have asked Google Netherlands for more clarity and will update this article as soon as we have an answer.

  1. Open the settings on your phone
  2. Open apps
  3. Scroll down the list to the Google app and tap it
  4. Tap the dots at the top right
  5. Tap on Uninstall updates

There were also problems with Gmail last week, from sync errors to problems logging in and opening attachments. In March, an awful lot of Android phone owners suffered from multiple apps crashing on their mobile due to the Android System Webview app. As with the problems with Gmail, we are now also reading about the problems with the Google app in international media, and trickling onto Twitter the first complaints from other countries as well. It’s not clear if Google is aware of the bugs or if a fix is in the works.

Are you having problems with the Google app? Have you already found a solution? Maybe you haven’t had any problems at all. Let us know in the comments at the bottom of this article.

Thanks for the tips, Naldo, Bert!
