Google and Huawei in 2021 friends again because of Biden?

Huawei and Google are no longer allowed to work together, but could the new US president Joe Biden change this?

Huawei has had to do without Google for a long time, but Biden may be the solution. The new president of the United States is a bit less aggressive than the previous one. That could mean that flagship killers like OnePlus and Xiaomi will get a competitor again in 2021.

Biden saves Huawei from Google-less existence

The sanctions against Huawei have always been a bit extreme or perhaps even based on nothing. For almost two years there has been a fuss around Huawei and the possible use of Google services. Perhaps President Joe Biden, on the other hand, can bring relief to the Chinese smartphone brand.

The administration of the new president could ease the sanctions a bit. When the US committee dealing with the Huawei case asks what Governor and Biden supporter Gina Raimondo would do, she responds relatively openly (via Reuters).

I would revise the policy [het committee] consult, consult the appropriate industry and speak to our allies to make an assessment that is in the service of US national and economic security.

The fact that Raimondo and with it Biden supporters are looking to review Trump’s economic sanctions is no big surprise. However, it does open the door for a company like Huawei to do business with the United States again. After all, the country’s economy is running hundreds of billions due to the hassle with Huawei.

Aside from all those abstraction consequences, there is also one clear benefit to the users themselves. It would mean that Huawei will become a usable brand again. After all, Huawei makes very solid smartphones, but without Google it is difficult not to go for another, comparable brand.
