German start-up Electric Brands offers modular e-cars

The current flood disasters in Western Europe show us what could become normal in the next few years. The reason is that we are still doing too little to combat climate change, and there is still a lot of catching up to do in transport in Germany. One tool is electromobility, which is likely to become more and more relevant in the next few years.

The German start-up Electric Brands wants to get involved in this market and has now presented its own platform for electric vehicles. The XBUS is, for example, a minibus that is equipped with solar panels and can travel up to 200 kilometers when fully charged. But other vehicle types are also possible thanks to the modular approach.

Various combinations can be ordered, from pick-ups to vans and camping buses. Various options are offered, including a range of 600 kilometers or the installation of up to 10 solar modules. The weight ranges from 450 kilograms to 600 kilograms, the maximum speed is 100 kilometers per hour.

On the Configurator on your own website the first models can already be assembled today, prices start at a little over 17,000 euros. Deliveries will probably take place at the end of 2022 at the earliest, and production of the vehicles will begin around mid-2022. The vehicles will then also be available offline from 600 suppliers in Europe, and the number should continue to increase if the market launch is successful.

If you like the idea, you can already participate via crowdfunding today, for a minimum contribution of 1,000 euros you can be part of the trip. Whether we will see a large number of XBUS models on the streets from the end of 2022 is another matter.

Own opinion:

A modular platform that can be used to configure anything? Sounds like a promising idea, such approaches can satisfy many different needs and at the same time can be produced relatively inexpensively. Now all you need is a proper marketing campaign to get the vehicle across. After all, what’s the point of an electric car that nobody knows?
