Gazelle Easyflow HMS, innovation in a familiar jacket

The well-known bicycle brand Gazelle wants to keep the familiar Gazelle feeling with its new model Easyflow HMS.

And at the same time introduce the latest gadgets to remain the market leader in technology. Will Gazelle succeed, or is this more of the same? An exploration.

The Easyflow HMS is certainly striking. The bicycle is lower than we are used to with most Gazelle electric bicycles, so that the cyclist can always keep her feet on the ground. An additional advantage of this special geometry is that the cyclist sits lower. The air resistance is therefore slightly lower, so that the range on the battery is greater.

Easyflow HMS offers “extra stability and safety in a sleek design”

Gazelle designed this bike by listening a lot to customers. For many people cycling is not so obvious. Especially if you don’t have much cycling experience yet, it takes some getting used to sitting high above the ground, without your feet reaching the ground. As a cyclist you get the feeling that you have lost control. Especially if you are a bit smaller than average.

This has been taken into account in the design of this bike. The wide tires, the rear-view mirror and the anti-slip pedals also provide extra safety. And, of course, the highly reliable hydraulic disc brakes. In many ways this is a low-speed speed pedelec.

The finish of this bike is also solid, as we are used to from Gazelle. A Shimano Nexus 7 gear ensures that you will always find a comfortable gear for your pedaling movements. The soft, wide saddle also offers a lot of comfort.

The bicycle is also equipped with handles on which you have an extra firm grip. This e-bike is therefore really a godsend for the insecure cyclist.

Battery and motor

Gazelle opted for the Shimano e-bike drive system when designing this bicycle. The standard 418 watt-hour battery can be upgraded to 630 Wh for an additional fee of 400 euros. This increases the range from 50-115 km to 80-170 km. If you often make longer trips, this upgrade is definitely recommended.

The Shimano STEPS E-6100 (50 Nm) is Shimano’s first really smart motor, with which the Japanese can match the Bosch quality level in terms of pedal assistance. In itself, Gazelle’s choice for the Shimano motor is not wrong. The E-6100 offers a powerful 50 Nm clutch. With that you are well up to most obstacles.

So, in principle, you can tackle the steeper hills with ease. For exceptional riding conditions, read: a steep hill with a strong headwind and a load, there is of course the seven-speed gear, which you can always call on when the conditions get too much even for the powerful Shimano motor.

Handy gadgets

Bicycle bags are easily removable via the unique Mik click system. Handy when you go shopping. You can then easily take the bicycle bag inside. You can also leave panniers at home if you don’t need them. So a lot of extra freedom and convenience.

Conclusion

The Gazelle Easyflow HMS is an innovative concept, which is especially useful as a novice adult cyclist or as a smaller person. The bike is well suited as a city bike, as well as a touring bike.

A missed opportunity is that no (possibly optional) front carrier and double standard are built in. Otherwise, the model would have been an excellent transport bike or mom’s bike. The low placement of the motor offers you extra stability. If you are very tall or an experienced cyclist, the Easyflow is less attractive. For the more experienced cyclists there are better Gazelle bikes.
