Garmin launches Venu 2 Plus with Google Assistant and Vívomove Sport

Garmin has announced two new smartwatches, the Venu 2 Plus and the vívomove Sport. New for Garmin is the addition of the Google Assistant to the Venu 2 Plus. So you can give voice commands on this watch, but you can also take phone calls.

Garmin Venu 2 Plus

Garmin plans to take a large part of the smartwatch market, and therefore comes with a product that shifts the focus from sports watch to smartwatch. The manufacturer does this by adding the Google Assistant. Thanks to this clever helper, you can use the Venu 2 Plus to send messages, ask questions and much more. For this, your smartphone must be connected to the smartwatch. Also new is the possibility to make phone calls via the watch.

  • Phone calls from the wrist: Make and answer incoming calls at the touch of a button.
  • Voice assistant control: Use with Siri, Google Assistant and Bixby. Users can use the voice assistant to send messages, ask questions and control all smart home devices in the house.

Fitness smartwatch

Garmin Venu 2 Plus also includes fitness features recently introduced on Venu 2 including over 25 built-in indoor and sports apps with favorites like walking, running, HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training), cycling, pool swimming , Pilates, yoga, indoor climbing, hiking, and also advanced strength training. The latter comes with graphical insights into trained muscle groups (see the screenshot above).

The Venu 2 Plus has a 43mm case with a stainless steel bezel and a 20mm quick release silicone strap. There is also built-in music storage, an AMOLED touchscreen with always-on mode and a battery that lasts 9 days in smartwatch mode. The watch also shows notifications from your smartphone such as calls, text messages, calendar reminders, and social media updates.

Safety first

The Garmin Venu 2 Plus is also equipped with various safety and tracking functions from Garmin, such as the automatic Accident Detection that you can use during walks and runs. This feature sends a message with your location to the emergency contacts you have set up. Thanks to the new features, the Venu 2 Plus can also call a contact or emergency service for you, or sound a loud alarm to alert bystanders.

Garmin Vivomove Sport

Garmin’s Vívomove series is also getting an expansion, in the form of the Vívomove Sport. The Vívomove Sport is also a hybrid smartwatch, meaning it combines a traditional analog style with smart features. This watch has real hands, but also a touchscreen. When you want to operate this touchscreen, the hands will move to the side, so that they do not stand over the display.

The Vívomove Sport includes many of the health and wellness features Garmin offers on its watches. You can track your workouts for yoga, strength training, Pilates, cardio, treadmill, cycling and more, as well as your steps, calories burned, and intensity minutes . The Vívomove Sport also includes safety and tracking features and uses your smartphone’s GPS to record distance and pace during your activities.
