Galaxy S21 Ultra – Snapdragon 888 vs Exynos 2100 speed test

In Europe we get the Galaxy S21 Ultra with Samsung’s own Exynos 2100, but isn’t that much worse than the Snapdragon 888?

As the European owner of a device from the Samsung Galaxy S21 series, you apparently have one big disadvantage. Samsung always equips their Galaxy smartphones in our market with an in-house Exynos processor. In this case it is the Exynos 2100 that has to compete against the Snapdragon 888. And guess what? Depending on your requirements, the Exynos is better, or a drama.

Galaxy S21 Ultra – Snapdragon 888 vs Exynos 2100

Fans are generally completely dissatisfied with the Exynos equivalent of the latest Snapdragon processor. AndroidAuthority, on the other hand, puts to the test whether that is actually correct, tested on the Galaxy S21 Ultra. It is only difficult to give a short answer.

With its standard higher clock speed, the Exynos has an advantage on computing power. At the beginning of the video below you can see that Samsung’s own Exynos 2100 takes slightly less time than the Snapdragon 888.

But as soon as photos and 2D calculations are used, the weakness of Samsung’s processor emerges. The Exynos 2100 with a 10% difference from the latest Snapdragon.

The worst is yet to come; the GPU test reveals that the Snapdragon 888 is simply superior in terms of graphics calculation. The Qualcomm chipset does the job in more than 26 seconds, while Samsung’s chipset takes more than 33 seconds. This is therefore a GPU difference of almost 30%.

Conclusion

All in all, the two processors are relatively similar in terms of CPU. The Exynos 2100 even performs slightly better than the Snapdragon 888 on pure computing power. But as soon as graphical calculations have to be done, Samsung’s chipset falls to pieces. In addition to a considerably slower rendering speed, what is produced by the GPU is also a lot less beautiful.

In short, if you want to play a mobile game on a Samsung Galaxy S21 every now and then, the Snapdragon 888 is essential. For normal use, the slightly faster GPU of the European S21 is sufficient.
