Fossil to unveil its Gen 6 watches on August 30

Fossil campaigned for its sixth-generation Wear OS watches in early August to draw attention away from Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 4. A newsletter to Fossil customers this time gives a launch date for the Gen 6 watches: August 30. The smartwatches running on Wear OS 2 will probably have a suggested retail price of 300 euros.

After Fossil bombarded its customers in early August about the upcoming smartwatch that has “Way more, way faster” as its tagline, this time the Fossil Group is shining light on the launch date of its new watches with Wear OS. This is according to reports from Droid Life, which has seen an email sent to the company’s biggest fans. According to the email, customers should monitor their inboxes on Monday to “be the first to access Fossil’s latest and most advanced smartwatch.”

This confirms that Fossil will unveil its Gen 6 watches on Monday, August 30. It is not known whether the company will only launch its watches in the United States, or whether an international launch is planned.

Gen 6 specifications

Although Fossil won’t be taking the cloths off its Gen 6 watches until Monday, all details about the smartwatches have already been leaked via Amazon. Amazon’s product pages announced that at least four models will be available, namely FTW4059, FTW4061, FTW4062 and FTW4063. Many components are similar between these watches, including the OLED display with a 1.28-inch diagonal and a 418×418-pixel resolution. All watches will also have the fast Snapdragon Wear 4100+ chipset, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, a rotating crown and a range of sensors that help keep track of your health.

Furthermore, the Gen 6 watches will be available in two sizes, 42mm and 44mm, and include a battery that can last up to 24 hours. When delivered, the watches still run on the old Wear OS 2, Fossil reported earlier. An update to Wear OS 3 will follow in 2022. It is possible that this update will lead to a longer battery life, since Wear OS 3 should provide better battery life according to Google and Samsung.

Prices and availability

It is not yet known when Fossil will release the Gen 6 watches in the Netherlands and Belgium. It is quite possible that the smartwatches will be available at the beginning of September. At what price you can buy them, remains to be seen. Some rumors speak of a price of around 300 euros, while others speak of prices rising towards 400 euros.
