for Orange, France is a year and a half behind

As you may know, 5G has been officially launched in France since November 18, 2020. In any case on paper, because in fact, we are still far from the mark. In December 2020 and thanks to the Orange network, 5G became a reality in about fifteen cities in France.

At present, the four operators have activated their respective 5G network and around 100 cities in France are covered for 5G. However, we are still far from maximum coverage and we will have to wait several more months before taking advantage of 5G everywhere in France.

It must be said that some municipalities have done everything to slow down the process, due to various health and ecological concerns. The city of Lille, for example, is waiting for the National Health Security Agency (ANSES) to submit its report in March 2021 on the possible effects of 5G waves on our health. Prior to the publication of this report, no 5G in the Lille region. Same story in Rennes, where the mayor has decided to suspend the deployment of 5G and wait for the ANSES report. But hey, we can always count on certain mayors to question anything and everything with a purely electoral goal: the internal combustion engine, the wheel and why not the fire (they are probably waiting for the result of a study that confirm that it burns)?

The fault of the elected according to Orange

For the CEO of Orange Stéphane Richard, these elected officials do not realize the delay already accumulated compared to other countries: ” France is leaving with almost a year and a half late in the deployment of 5G. It is difficult to know today if she will catch up with him ”, he admits in an interview given to the Journal du Dimanche this Sunday, January 10, 2021.

We are indeed not really ahead in the deployment of this technology. In addition to basic problems, the chronology of the last months provides an explanation for the recent tensions. In the spring of 2019, 5G became a campaign theme for the municipal elections, which did not help matters, on the contrary. While the authorizations had finally been granted to the operators ”, the CEO rages.

As a reminder, in September 2020, the government published the results of a study proving that the waves generated by 5G are not dangerous for health. The research was carried out in collaboration with the General Council for the Environment and Sustainable Development, the General Council for the Economy, the General Inspectorate of Finance and the General Inspectorate of Social Affairs.

Are you one of the lucky ones eligible for 5G? RED by SFR offers a 130 GB 5G package for only € 25 : without commitment and without price increase. The latter is valid in these large cities and their suburbs: Paris, Marseille / Aix-en-Provence, Bordeaux, Montpellier, Nice, Rouen, Orléans, Dijon, Strasbourg, Toulouse, Ajaccio and Nantes.
