‘First iPad with OLED screen coming in 2023, possibly an iPad Air’

We’ve been hearing about Apple’s plans to give the iPad an OLED display for years, but the date keeps moving forward. A new rumor is now targeting 2023.

Read on after the ad.

‘First OLED iPad to arrive in 2023’

The news comes from the Display Supply Chian Consultants (DSCC), a group of experts in all things fencing. Every quarter, the company publishes an overview of the amount of OLED displays that are shipped and makes a prediction about the future.

Because DSCC has the necessary contacts in the world of mobile screens, there is a good chance that they already know a thing or two about Apple’s plans for an OLED iPad. According to the company, Apple will present its first OLED iPad in 2023, with a 10.9-inch screen. Earlier rumors already stated that the iPad Air would be the first Apple tablet with such a display; the screen size of the DSCC prediction corresponds to this.

DSCC is far from the first to say something about iPads with OLED panels. We’ve been hearing rumors about this for years, with most Apple sources agreeing we’d see at least one iPad with the upgraded display next year.

Why does the iPad get an OLED screen?

In two years’ time, the iPad would thus join the list with other Apple products that now have an OLED screen: the iPhone, Apple Watch and Touch Bar of the MacBook Pro. After the iPad, MacBooks would also be equipped with this superior screen.

If the iPad switches to OLED, you will certainly notice this as a user. An OLED screen has improved brightness, higher contrast, wider viewing angles and deeper blacks. The latter is possible because an OLED display can switch off individual pixels and therefore does not have to show a ‘black image’.

The iPad Pro 2021 also made improvements in the field of screen quality earlier this year. We will elaborate on this in the article below.
