First game with Stadia Direct Touch is coming: the outcome?

There’s a Stadia game coming called Humankind and direct touch controls are unusual, sort of a perfect mix between mobile gaming and console gaming.

Google Stadia is a striking way of modern gaming. With an Xbox and a PlayStation you get a console and everything works via your console. Stadia works with a controller and the cloud. You stream the games from a server as if it were Netflix. A striking twist on the idea of ’gaming’.

regular

Other than that, it’s pretty normal gaming. A controller, a TV on which you have to stream everything and a subscription so that it still costs a little money. Nice is the possibility that you can stream the game to your mobile device (but still operate it with your controller). Now comes a game that turns things around. A game that you don’t have to control with the controller.

Direct Touch

There will be a game for Stadia called Humankind and it will be the first game with Direct Touch control. Then your smartphone is the controller for the game. The advantage of this is that the game becomes a kind of control panel that can change with the game. This way you can just play the game, but you have a more interactive layout in, for example, menus.

Better?

Does it also work? Direct Touch for Stadia sounds a bit like the well-known dilemma that you also have in cars, for example: buttons can be operated much better by touch and in fact nothing compares to the direct response of a button. But buttons are always the same: Direct Touch can change things in such a way that the layout is always intuitive.

But pressing buttons on a touchscreen is more sensitive to delay or just not touching the right thing, especially delay you can’t have too much of in cloud-based games. Whether it will work is another matter.

Fortunately, we’ll soon find out: Humankind will be launched next week for Stadia and you can also opt for no Direct Touch. (via 9to5Google)
