Firefox 106 is available: the list of new features
Mozilla offers the stable version of Firefox 106 and there are several new features with this update. This is an opportunity to see what the browser offers in its new version.
What’s new in Firefox 106
New with version 106 is Firefox View, which appears at the very top left of the tab bar. This system helps you get back to content you discovered previously. A pinned tab lets you find and open recently closed tabs on your current device, access tabs from other devices (via the Tab Recovery feature), and change the look of the browser (with Colorways).
The Firefox View page is divided into three main sections: Tab Recovery, Recently Closed, and Independent Voices. Tab Fetching requires a Firefox Account because Mozilla uses Firefox Sync to display recently viewed pages on other devices in this section.
Additionally, the update adds basic PDF editing, including writing text, drawing, and adding signatures. Also, by making Firefox your default browser, you also make it the default PDF application on Windows PCs.
You can now pin incognito windows to the Windows 10 and Windows 11 taskbar for easier access. In addition, private windows have been redesigned to increase the feeling of privacy according to Mozilla.
Note that the presence of text recognition in images allows users of macOS 10.15 Catalina and newer versions to extract text from the selected image. The extracted text is copied to the clipboard to be shared, stored or searched, without having to manually retype everything.
Finally, a notable update for the possibilities of WebRTC is present. This allows:
- Better screen sharing for Windows and Linux Wayland users.
- Lower CPU usage and increased frame rates during WebRTC screen capture on macOS.
- Improved RTP performance and reliability.
- Richer statistics.
- Improvements to cross-browser and service compatibility.
Firefox 106 is available for download on the Mozilla website.
