Film fans watch out! PS5 beats Xbox Series X in comparison
If you want to build your home theater around a “next gen” console, then you should better rely on the PS5 than the Xbox Series X. A recent test shows why Sony’s console is ahead of the curve for movie buffs.
Both the Xbox Series X and the PlayStation 5 can play 4K BluRays and are thus in principle suitable as home theater devices. However, the PS5 has when playing movies on UHD discs to offer better conditions than the Xbox Series X.As becomes clear in the video test from the YouTube channel HDTVTest.
PS5 shows better performance with 4K BluRays

For some 4K films, the YouTube channel noticed that the Xbox Series X had a frame rate of approximately 23.97 Hz instead of the default 24 Hz reproduces. This can thus repeatedly lead to frame jumps that are only minimally perceptible, but still exist.
In terms of color space, the PS5 can score with a slightly wider scope. The values were tested on various 4K televisions in order to rule out color deviations due to the TV set. Both the PS5 and the Xbox Series X can play 4K discs and, with the right home theater setup, can conjure up cinematic experiences in your living room. However, if you value the best possible picture, then you can currently not avoid a dedicated “4K BluRay” player.
The consoles are able to forward the 3D audio tracks to your sound system in “Dolby Atmos” format, but that dynamic HDR format Dolby Vision cannot be recognized for films from 4K BluRays. Both gaming giants still have some catching up to do in this area.
