Fast charging on the Apple Watch Series 7: what you need

The Apple Watch Series 7 has a cool new feature: fast charging. According to Apple, three quarters of an hour is enough to charge the smartwatch to 80 percent. But what do you need for this? That tells iPhoned you!

Apple Watch Series 7 fast charging: what you need

Have you already managed to get your hands on a new Apple Watch Series 7? Cool! Then you undoubtedly also know what the new functions of the smartwatch are. One of the coolest innovations is the fast charging. The Apple Watch Series 7 is now charged for 80 in 45 minutes. That’s 33 percent faster than the previous Apple Watch Series 6.

Magnetic puck with USB-C cable

To quickly charge your brand new Apple Watch Series 7, you need the magnetic fast charging cable. You do not have to buy it, because it is included. The cable is easiest to recognize by the small charging dock (sometimes also called a ‘puck’). Place the Watch on this puck to charge. Incidentally, the dock is no longer made of plastic, but with the Apple Watch Series 7 it is made of aluminum.

Charging block with USB-C and fast charging

The cable has a usb-c connector, so you must have an adapter that uses the same connection. In addition, the power adapter must be powerful enough to support the fast charging of the Apple Watch Series 7.

An adapter is not included with your new Watch, so you will need to purchase one. Or you happen to have one lying around from your iPhone or iPad. Apple recently specified exactly what the power adapter must meet.

Apple Adapters USB-C

For fast charging on the Apple Watch Series 7 you need:

  • An Apple 18W, 20W, 29W, 30W, 61W, 87W, or 96W USB-C power adapter
  • A comparable USB-C power adapter that supports USB-PD (USB Power Delivery) of 5W or more

Already have an Apple adapter, but not sure how many Watts it is? That is quite easy to find out. At the bottom of the adapter is stated (in tiny letters) exactly what the charging block can deliver. Can’t find the amount of Watt? Then check the serial number (for example ‘Apple A1400’). With this number and a simple search on Google you can find out the wattage.

Is the text on the adapter too small to read? Then use the camera on your iPhone or iPad. The text can even be copied with the new LiveText feature in iOS 15.
