Facebook is looking for new employees in the EU. They will help him build a “metaverse”

Facebook plans to create 10,000 jobs across the European Union over the next five years in an effort to create a so-called “metaverse”. The term refers to a virtual space where users can meet, for example, using VR headsets or augmented reality. The Business Insider portal informed about the news.

According to Facebook, the jobs created will be suitable for highly qualified candidates. CEO Mark Zuckerberg is convinced of the quality of the European IT sector and believes he will find many talented people in Europe. The company plans to focus on Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Poland, the Netherlands and Ireland when selecting new employees.

Facebook has already introduced the first metaverse project

This will not be the first time a company has tried to push the boundaries of virtual reality. In August, it launched the Horizon Workrooms project, which allowed users to have workshops in virtual reality as they could not hold them live due to a pandemic. However, instead of their colleagues, they met their avatars in the room.

Zuckerberg even considers the metaverse to be the next generation of the Internet and wants Facebook to become a fully metaverse company one day. According to him, in the future, the Internet should be something in which we can be directly with other users, instead of interacting with it via smartphones or computers.

Meanwhile, the company is facing a sharp attack

In the meantime, however, the company faces problems related to criticism of its operation from former employees. The announcement of the creation of new jobs came on the same day that Sophie Zhang, a former Facebook data scientist, testified to the British Parliamentary Committee on the company’s practices. Another informant, Frances Haugen, will testify before the committee next week.
