Facebook has begun to erase misinformation about the current pandemic

Facebook has been the target of criticism for many years – for protecting personal data, for allowing the spread of fraud and misinformation, and a few other reasons. Most recently, however, Facebook has taken action against misinformation about the pandemic. Disinformation about the vaccine and the pandemic will also be helped by the WHO (World Health Organization) itself.

Facebook finally erases information about the pandemic

The WHO contributed the arguments that Facebook follows when deleting posts. They are available on the COVID-19 Policy Update and Protection page on Facebook and in Slovak. Some of them are mentioned in the picture below:

The new rules will be aimed at sites, groups and individuals who will create such posts. Accounts that commit repeated violations will be deleted by the social network. Moderators of groups that will contain misinformation will be obliged to moderate the mentioned posts after notification. Fact-checkers will also help, who will continue to verify users’ claims. If they mark a post as misinformation, Facebook will display such a warning and limit the misinformation.

In addition, Facebook will focus on providing people with verified information. Like Google, it wants to put even more information about the pandemic from trusted sources, such as local health institutions – the Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic or the National Center for Health Information (NCZI).

Facebook vaccination information

This information should be displayed in the well-known COVID-19 info center. In particular, information should be provided on the availability of vaccines and on the rules on who should be vaccinated, when and where. In addition, this information center should also reach Instagram, Engadget recalls.

Facebook information on coronavirus

Facebook will also help healthcare organizations with advertising credits totaling up to $ 120 million. It will also help them with training and support so that they can inform people even more effectively.
