Sony’s mobile division has launched a new variant of the Xperia 10 III in Japan: the 10 III Lite. With the Xperia 10 III Lite, you should get a similar experience to the 10 III, but at a suggested retail price that is 10 percent lower. It is unknown whether Sony plans to bring the phone to Europe.

Sony launched the third iteration of its Xperia 10 series in April. On the midrange device from Sony, we saw support for 5G networks for the first time in its midrange lineup. Sony used the Snapdragon 690 5G chipset for this. In addition, the Xperia 10 III received a battery that is 25 percent larger – with a capacity of 4,500 mAh – as well as an IP68 rating and a Gorilla Glass 6 housing. Sony’s Xperia 10 III Lite builds on that concept, according to the specification list. of the recently launched Lite variant.

So on the specification list we find the same Snapdragon 690 5G chipset, the same 6.0-inch OLED screen with a Full HD + resolution and finally the same 4,500 mAh battery. According to the specification list, the battery can be charged with 30 watts, just like on the non-Lite variant. You may now be wondering what is Lite about the Xperia 10 III Lite. The answer to that question lies with the available storage memory and the SIM configuration.

For the Xperia 10 III Lite, Sony has a batch of 64 GB memory chips on the head: half the storage memory on the regular Sony Xperia 10 III. It is still possible to expand the storage with a microSD card. In addition, you can only place one SIM card in the Xperia 10 III Lite, compared to the dual-SIM functionality of its more expensive farmer. The last adjustment we find with the FM tuner; it has disappeared from the phone.

Exclusive to Japan?

All other specifications are the same as the original Xperia 10 III. Partly for that reason, the question is whether we will ever see the telephone in Europe. In addition, Sony has silently launched the phone on the Japanese market, where the Xperia 10 III Lite is currently only available from telecom providers.

Should Sony release the Xperia 10 III Lite in Europe, it could be a death knell for the Xperia 10 III. Sony’s suggested retail price of the Lite version is 10 percent lower than that of the regular 10 III, at 365 euros (JPY 46,800).
