Every train traveler must know this card

The final sprint for the 9-euro ticket has begun: A new online tool reveals where you can take the train in a maximum of five hours. The map makes it easy to see which countries and cities can be reached in a few hours. It’s also worth taking a look for the time after the 9-euro ticket.

Train: Map shows all destinations within a 5-hour radius

Sometimes just looking at a map is enough to get inspiration. The French developer Benjamin Td probably thought so too and published a new online tool. On the map of chronotrains.com it is easy to see which destinations can be reached by train in five hours.

The use is kept simple, you just have to move the mouse over any city and you’re done shown in color how long the journey takes. Areas colored red indicate that the train journey takes less than an hour. The journeys for which there are between two and four hours are marked with several shades of orange. Yellow indicates a travel time of five hours.

In the example shown we start in Freiburg im Breisgau and see that we make it as far as Paris, just before Milan or the Dutch border:

In the case of possible changes, a time of 20 minutes included. The start does not necessarily have to be in Germany, but can also be in other European countries, provided that Deutsche Bahn has the appropriate connection data.
