“Just like with Norah, I also wanted to tell Tijn the ins and outs about sex early on, but every time I arrive at Tijn with something more than just flowers and bees, he puts his hands on his ears, runs away and screams: ‘ No, no, I don’t want to hear it.’

You would almost think that he has suffered a trauma somewhere, because every bit of naked body on TV or from his sister is crazy and should only make you shudder very hard.
“Is this a phase or am I doing something wrong?”
Is this a phase or am I doing something wrong? Am I there too early? Should I wait until he wants to know more about it himself? I also don’t want it to pick up somewhere else and really experience a trauma.”

Research shows that many children would like to talk about sex more often and in more detail at home. Children between the ages of nine and twelve also do not know as much about sex, despite the fact that primary schools have been obliged to provide sex education since 2012. Thirty percent of children between the ages of nine and twelve don’t talk about it at all, 48 percent know what sex is exactly and sixty percent know where babies come from. And then they haven’t even mentioned their own physical changes.
