Eufy RoboVac X8 Hybrid review: full steam ahead!

Most will often take it in hand; the vacuum cleaner. But you can also put the RoboVac X8 Hybrid robot vacuum cleaner from Eufy to work. We have tested the Eufy RoboVac X8 Hybrid and you can read our review in this review!

Robot vacuum cleaners come in different shapes and sizes, what can such a robot do in your home and what do you have to take into account? Eufy wants to take some work off your hands with the X8 Hybrid. For example, the device can not only vacuum but also mop the floor. So that you will not only find a clean room, but also a fresh room. Let’s unpack the vacuum cleaner and see what Eufy brings.

Sales package

In the fairly large box we find the robot vacuum cleaner, but also the charging dock and a very extensive manual in several languages. Furthermore, Eufy also supplies a plastic mat for the mop mode and a washable mop + 5 disposable mops. We also find an extra filter and side brush in the box. We have everything we need to get started.

In use

To start the first cleaning you need to install the EufyHome app. The installation goes smoothly and in no time the X8 Hybrid is ready for us to operate. As a test of the sum, the device starts working for the first time. Slowly but surely we see the contours of the room being drawn in the app. The device has a laser to maneuver around the room.

The vacuum cleaner turns effortlessly around table legs and navigates between the chairs. After the whole round, the RoboVac returns to its parking spot and starts charging. According to the application, the device needs about half an hour for an area of ​​​​30 square meters. More importantly, the floor is actually clean, some loose hay and cat hair on the floor has completely disappeared. The device has four different suction power settings, but can also automatically adjust the suction power if necessary.

After vacuuming, click the dust compartment loose and you can knock it empty in the waste bin. Place it back and a vote confirms that the dust collector has been replaced, ready for another round.

In the following days, it is noticeable that the vacuum cleaner has some difficulty with the dining room chairs, which have elongated horizontal legs. With two seats next to each other with a little space in between, the device gets stuck. It is handy that you immediately receive a notification on your smartphone, so that you can help the RoboVac on its way. Less convenient if you’re just outside the door.

In principle, the vacuum cleaner can go over lower thresholds, but our long threshold of approximately 1.5 centimeters high turns out to be quite a climb, sometimes the vacuum cleaner manages to reach the hallway, but often not.

A second floor

You can set multiple floors via the app with the multi-map function. It is important that you also take the docking station with you. Only then will the RoboVac create a new floor plan. If you want to use the RoboVac X8 Hybrid one floor higher, you can also choose to buy an extra docking station, which is not (yet) available via Eufy itself on the European site.

Mop

If you want to get started with the mopping function of the RoboVac, Eufy recommends vacuuming three times with the RoboVac. To prevent you from mopping up all the dust, of course. Click the water reservoir on the device and you can have the device mopped. If you do it right, the device will report “Mop installed”. Although there is no reference in the booklet to using some detergent (just water), inquiry tells us that you can indeed add some detergent to the reservoir.

The result may be a cleaner floor, but a hand-mopping session will remove more difficult stains. For the mopping program, we have also marked a carpet as a “no area while mopping” just to be safe. Because the mop is not lifted, resulting in a wet carpet.

Manual operation

You have various options in the app to control the device, in addition to the regular program you can also order the cleaning of a specific room. You can also specify a zone, but controlling it manually is also possible. Your smartphone then acts as a remote control and is a nice function if you want to control the robot yourself.

You can also define areas via the app so that you can clean part of the room or indicate that something is prohibited for the device.

Battery life

On a full battery, we can send the robot three times over the ground floor with suction power on the “Turbo” setting. If you have a ground floor apartment, it will not be a problem to provide you with a clean result. The battery of the RoboVac X8 Hybrid can be replaced, which makes the vacuum cleaner more durable.

Rating

We are enthusiastic about the RoboVac X8 Hybrid, both the vacuuming result is above expectations and the operation via the EufyHome app is well put together. The mopping function is a nice addition, but for better polishing you still have to rely on manual work. Fortunately, you can indicate via the app what “do not mop” zones are in your room(s). The sales package is very complete, but those who are only looking for a vacuum cleaner robot may benefit from a cheaper model!
