EU wants WhatsApp and Messages to work together
The European Union yesterday announced new plans to curb anti-competitive behavior from the tech giants. Part of that: WhatsApp (from Facebook) and Messages (from Apple) must become compatible with each other.

iMessage and WhatsApp should work together
The tech giants Apple, Google, Microsoft and Facebook have long been a thorn in the side of the EU. This is mainly due to the companies’ anti-competitive behaviour. That is why the EU wants to take a number of measures under the Digital Markets Act (DMA) to limit that behaviour.
The measure with the greatest impact has to do with the major messenger services, such as WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger and Messages (iMessage). According to the plan, these should be compatible with each other. That would mean you can send a message to Apple’s Messages via WhatsApp, and vice versa.
Smaller services are also included
Not a fan of these great services? Then the EU has even more good news. Because a Signal, Threema and Telegram are also part of the plans. So soon it won’t matter which app you want to use; you can app with anyone.
