This Thursday, June 15, 2023, the energy supplier Engie announced its arrival on the electric charging market. Indeed, the group aims to become a major player in this sector, at a time when more than 10 million electric cars have found takers worldwide in 2022.

To capture a substantial share of this cake, Engie has created a new brand called Engie Vianeo. Just like the Casino group, or even Lidl and Carrefour, Engie in turn wants to offer its fleet of electric charging stations.

The French company has already announced its ambitions: install no less than 12,000 electric charging points in France by 2025. Enough to participate in the national effort to accelerate the decarbonization of transport. Remember that France has finally reached the symbolic milestone of 100,000 terminals. Now, the country has set itself another objective: exceed 400,000 charging points by the end of the decade.

1,000 terminals already installed in France

To begin with, Engie Vianeo has already confirmed that commissioning of the first 1,000 terminals distributed throughout France:

  • 800 terminals are available on the APRR, SANEF, Vinci Autoroutes and ESSO motorway networks
  • Terminals will also be found in 35 Indigo car parks in 20 French cities.
  • On the roads in the Eurometropolis of Strasbourg, the urban community of Epinal and the Aix-Marseille-en-Provence metropolis
  • in the car parks of hundreds of B&B Hotels or Norauto sites

A website and a dedicated mobile app

To ensure an optimal experience for its customers, Engie also launched a dedicated site engie-vianeo.com and a mobile application. In particular, you can find an interactive map that lists all the charging points available in France in real time. Users will also be able to use these two tools to plan their route depending on their vehicle and remaining range.

Regarding tariffs, Engie Vianeo will offer refills at 300 kWh at €0.57 per kWh on motorways and to €0.69 per kWh at ESSO stations partners. To pay, three payment methods will be offered:

  • via the mobile application by scanning a QR Code
  • by credit card at the terminal
  • via an electric charging card (including “My charging card” initiated by Engie Vianeo)

The activities of this new entity will not be limited to charging for individuals. Indeed, Engie Vianeo will also provide mobility solutions to communities, businesses, logisticians and even fleet managers.
