E-cars from China should conquer Germany
With Nio, a new Tesla competitor from China is pushing into Germany. The start of their own electric cars is planned for 2022. Nio wants to convince with its unique selling point: the automatic battery change. The carmaker’s European boss has revealed how he imagines the triumphant march in Germany.
Nio: E-cars and battery changing stations for Germany
Nio wants to offer and deliver its first own electric car in Germany in 2022. The sedan ET7 should make the start, as the company has already announced. But the Chinese manufacturer does not primarily provide a reason to look forward to the start in Germany because of this electric car, but mainly because Nio thus offers an alternative to long charging stops.
With Nio’s electric cars, the empty battery can be automatically replaced with a fully charged one at the company’s stations. The whole process should only take 4 minutes and offered in Germany. Nios Europe boss Hui Zhang has now revealed the first details.
Accordingly, the goal is to be able to offer battery replacement at the same time as the delivery of the first e-cars to German customers – expected in the fourth quarter of 2022. First they should Battery exchange stations along important main traffic arteries and around large cities arise, according to Hui (source: daily News). Munich should probably be given priority, where the Chinese design headquarters are located.

Battery swap also for e-cars from other brands? Nio is ready for it
With the ET7 and the battery-swap stations, customers in Germany can expect a new facet of e-mobility. But Nio doesn’t want to leave it at that. “I said that Nio is very open to partners who also want to offer this technology”Hui confirms the plans to offer the battery change to other car manufacturers.
That would be a very lucrative project for Nio – and also exciting for e-car drivers who want to avoid long charging times but don’t drive a Nio. But there is still a big question mark before the plan, because the Manufacturers would have to agree on a standard battery.
