Dyson V15 Detect Absolute – content, design and functionality
First we unpack the Dyson V15 Detect Absolute and first go into the enclosed accessories.
First, we have the two large brushes. On the one hand, there is the Torque-Drive floor nozzle. Due to the high torque and the brush used, this is ideal for cleaning carpets thoroughly, as it penetrates deep into the carpet. Of course, it can also be used for thorough cleaning of hard floors. It is supported by a dynamic sensor system and microprocessors, through which it is recognized which floor you are currently vacuuming and the suction force is automatically adjusted accordingly. As a result, you automatically have a longer running time on the hard floor and do not have to pay extra attention to adjusting the suction power when switching from carpet to hard floor.
The second large brush is the electric brush with a soft roller, or “Slim Fluffy Laser with dust detection”. This is suitable for both hard and soft floors, so that scratches on the floor can be prevented and gently brushed and vacuumed. Sometimes both very fine dust and coarse dirt are taken along. This brush gives the Dyson V15 Detect Absolute its name. At least the “Detect” part. Because here is how a laser is built in with the function of showing you dust. In reality, when it is very dusty and a little darker in the room, it looks similar to the fourth picture (but not quite as strong). Unfortunately, I couldn’t quite capture what is due to the daylight with the camera. It is definitely a cool feature, is it useful? Depends on you. Those who do not clean as systematically as I do and forget where they left off, will at least have it easier to locate areas that have not been vacuumed. The coolest feature, however: The Dyson V15 Detect Absolute can make microscopic dust particles visible and even show you in real time what you are sucking in and how much. I walked around the house with it all day, analyzing every single corner and looking at where and how I can optimize my cleaning behavior.
Both brushes are easy to maneuver through the area and feel natural. However, if you want to go under the sofa, for example, you will notice: With the electric brush with soft roller, the height of the main unit of the Dyson V15 Detect Absolute blocks further penetration from a certain point, as the vacuum cleaner cannot become completely flat. The joint of the Torque-Drive floor nozzle can be turned 90 ° to the side for this purpose, so that if you hold the main unit sideways, you are only hindered by half the width of the main unit, which means that you can do more or is less unhindered. At least that would have been my criticism if there hadn’t been an interchangeable joint, the flex adapter, recently. If you release the joint, you can get under any reasonable sofa or bed. The Dyson V15 Detect Absolute is a bit too long for the separately available stand, which is why you have to remove it beforehand if you have it.
It gets smaller with the mini electric brush, which is called the hair nozzle here. This also has a motorized brush inside and is particularly suitable for upholstered furniture, stairs or the car. She can also handle (animal) hair very well. Otherwise it wouldn’t be called the hair nozzle. And here too, deep-seated dirt is removed. In direct comparison with older models, you can see that the name is not the only change, but also the shape, which becomes thinner towards the right. How much it differs in performance is difficult to determine. Overall, however, it works more thoroughly than before.
All motorized brushes are very thorough due to the structure and suction power of the main motor, so that they can be used very effectively against allergens, mites, etc. So far, I had never vacuumed such fine dust on a floor with any of the battery-powered vacuum cleaners that had been vacuumed a few minutes earlier with another battery-powered vacuum cleaner. Or more precisely: With no non-Dyson vacuum cleaner, because practically all Dyson models from recent years are as strong as the Dyson V15 Detect Absolute.
Next we come to the non-motorized attachments. The crevice nozzle is used for hard-to-reach places, corners and gaps. The extra-soft brush is suitable for sensitive surfaces due to its soft bristles and can also be used well on the work table or keyboard, while the extra-hard brush can be used for stubborn, partially dried-up dirt. You get two in one with the combination accessory nozzle, whose fixed nylon bristles can be extended or retracted.
In addition to the large and small motorized brushes, I always only use the crevice nozzle and the combi accessory nozzle from this selection. In order not to have to hold it in your hand for three floors, there is the great accessory holder. This is clamped to the suction tube and has space for two accessories that you can always take with you wherever you go. Anyone like me who vacuums thoroughly several times a week will appreciate that.
In addition to all the attachments, we of course have other accessories in the Dyson V15 Detect Absolute package: The wall bracket is not my first choice and more than impractical for me because I prefer feet and don’t have to drill, but that is the case with most devices the standard. The stand can be bought separately and is also included in one of the Dyson V15 Detect Absolute Bundles. In any case, the Dyson V15 Detect Absolute can be plugged in and charged here. In addition, two more accessories fit here.
Dyson V15 Detect Absolute – The main unit
The main unit is of course the heart of the whole and contains the motor, the filter, the container, the display, the control, etc. Inside is the Dyson Hyperdymium motor, which rotates at up to 125,000 rpm. So it looks like the engine of the Dyson V15 Detect Absolut hardly differs from last year’s models. But it is stronger either due to the structure, at least if you look at the Air Watt information. Even if this is of course not a reliable performance specification, since different factors, including the structure, play a role, the Dyson V15 Detect Absolute comes with 240 AW. About 20 more than the older models. Since I have direct comparison devices, I can already tell the difference. The power and performance are well balanced here and noise is reduced as much as possible. It still sounds like a vacuum cleaner, but the sound is more pleasant and the volume less annoying than many cheaper devices with a weaker motor.
It is filtered with a completely sealed filtration system, which is supposed to absorb 99.97% of the particles down to 0.3 micrometers. As a result, the air that blows out at the top is practically clean. It would not be an exaggeration to say that the Dyson V15 Detect Absolute also filters the air when it is vacuumed. The air itself is rather cool and not uncomfortably warm as with some other vacuum cleaners. The 14 cyclones generate forces of more than 100,000 g (here, too, an improvement of 21,000 g can be determined). This can be used to suck up pollen, dust mites or even various bacteria and collect them in the container. These are microscopic particles.
The display also shows the current performance and the remaining battery life in minutes and seconds. You will also be advised when, for example, the tank should be emptied or the filter should be cleaned. The situation is similar with blockages or when the filter or tank has not been inserted properly. The Dyson V15 Detect Absolute is used for this.
Emptying the tank is super easy. A simple mechanism allows you to easily dump the contents of the tank into the trash can, for example. The filter can also be easily removed and washed under running water. After drying, everything is ready for use again. The dust container can hold 0.77 L.
Dyson V15 Detect Absolute – battery
The battery performance of the Dyson V15 Detect Absolute depends on the selected performance. You can switch between Eco, Medium and Boost with a simple click of the button on the display, or it happens automatically with the Torque-Drive floor nozzle. Most of the time I only use the medium mode because I don’t have a carpet at home and it’s more than enough. You hardly need the boost, which is good because it pulls the battery drastically.
As already mentioned, the Dyson V15 Detect Absolute shows exactly to the second how much battery life is left. When starting for the first time, the time is only an estimate. However, the microprocessors learn with each use, so that the assessment becomes the truth.
The running time for our device is 60 minutes in eco mode, medium 45 minutes and 10 minutes in boost mode. There is generally nothing wrong with the battery and I can easily get through 3 floors plus basement in 45 minutes. Incidentally, the battery charges for 4.5 hours.
