The new macOS Monterey has been available for a few weeks now. Is the time right to download macOS 12 Monterey, or does it make sense to wait to update?

Updating to macOS 12
There are many reasons to upgrade to macOS Monterey. For example, the update enables AirPlay to Mac, which allows you to play the image from the iPhone or iPad on the Mac. Safari has also been improved and Apple is introducing new features such as Live Text, Focus and Quick Notes.
However, some Mac users choose to wait to upgrade. Although Apple has a beta program to eliminate bugs from the operating system, it sometimes happens that some bugs appear after a major software update.
macOS Monterey: Problems and Bugs
Bugs have also been discovered in macOS Monterey – first published on October 25 – although not everyone is bothered by them. For a very small group of users, a bug in the firmware of the T2 security chip prevented a Mac from booting. Apple has since resolved the issue. The fix would be included in the existing macOS 12 update.
Another bug in macOS Monterey is a so-called memory leak. In this case, an app or process no longer releases the memory it was using in RAM. This causes the app or process to consume abnormally large amounts of RAM in a short period of time. This bug also appears to affect a very small group of Mac users and will likely be fixed in an interim macOS 12 update.
macOS Monterey: Download or Wait?
The new macOS Monterey isn’t a major overhaul, so upgrading is almost always smooth. We didn’t run into any issues with our Macs and the chances of you experiencing the previously discussed memory leak, is nil.
If you still want to be on the safe side, you can wait until the release of macOS 12.1. The mid-term update is currently in beta and is expected at the end of November. Don’t delay updating for much longer, as macOS updates contain important bug fixes and security improvements.
