Donald Trump prepares legal action against Facebook, Twitter and Google

During a press conference this Wednesday, July 7, Donald Trump made a first media return. On this occasion the former US president will attack the giants of social networks following the actions taken against him at the end of his mandate.

7 months after the end of his term, former President Trump is making his voice heard again. On the occasion of a press conference held in his Bedminster golf course in New Jersey. During this speech, the 45th President of the United States lodged complaints against Facebook, Twitter and Google but also their bosses. Mark Zuckerberg, Jack Dorsey and Sundar Pichai are also targeted by the billionaire. It is the various social networks bans that are at the origin of this complaint.

Systematic criticism of the pervasiveness of networks emanated from the Oval Office before the line was crossed. Following an immense rise in tension maintained by Donald Trump as well as the results of the presidential elections, the American Capitol was stormed by supporters of the latter.

The 45th President of the United States used his social networks to show his support for those present there. However, this January 6 was a dark day with 6 people killed during these events. Twitter and Facebook have therefore decided to suspend Trump’s accounts for messages inciting violence. In June, Facebook confirmed the suspension of this account for two years.

What future for this complaint against social networks?

The billionaire’s ambition is to prove that the decisions of the web giants are illegal, anti-constitutional and anti-American censorship. The objective is also to modify section 230 of the first amendment, a legal provision making social networks accountable and authorizing censorship if the content published on dangerous. The only problem is that the complaint would already be unlikely to succeed for several reasons.

First of all because the Twitter and Facebook charters stipulate that the complaints must be lodged in California, while Donald Trump’s was made in Florida. Especially in recent years, 61 other similar complaints have been systematically dismissed by the courts.
