Danger for cell phone users: manufacturer calls back Powerbank

Anyone who recently bought a power bank from the US manufacturer Belkin may be living dangerously. For the special edition portable wireless charger called WIZ003, Belkin now has a voluntary product recall started.

According to Belkin, a “manufacturing defect in the power supply” could cause the charger to malfunction or overheat. This could create a risk of fire and electric shock, it said. According to Belkin, no personal injury or property damage has been reported so far. Other devices from the manufacturer are not affected by the recall.

Nevertheless, owners of the Special Edition WIZ003 should immediately stop using the charging station and disconnect the device from the power supply.

Devices with the following serial numbers are affected: 35B01DO6029400-35B01DO6033704, 35B01DO5010350- 35B01DO5014350, 35B01DO6016560-35B01DO6020560, 35B01DO5014500-35B01DO5020003, 35B01DO6010001-500. The serial number itself can be found on the battery.

Belkin is offering buyers a “full refund” of the purchase price. For the safe disposal of the product and for processing the refund, the manufacturer has a on its website Form provided. There, buyers of the Special Edition WIZ003 have to enter the name, address and photos of the wireless power bank including the serial number in order to receive the refund.
