Czech companies offer a 5G connection, which is not 5G at all

The Czech Telecommunication Office has published its next monthly monitoring report, in which it informs, among other things, about the identified shortcomings in the field of connectivity supply. In January, for example, non-compliance with the new rules for ensuring the speed of the Internet was a major issue. The main topic of the February issue is again misleading labeling of 5G technology and connections. The CTO points out that some ISPs appear to use the trade name “5G” in a potentially misleading way, as they are in fact use mobile networks that are not 5G networks.

“Unfortunately, 5G-compelling ads don’t automatically mean that consumers can look forward to a fully deployed fifth-generation mobile network. It is in the interest of the Office that erroneous assumptions and expectations of the consumer cannot be made. In particular, those that could relate to download and upload speeds and response times. Therefore, if the CTU in specific cases finds that the entrepreneur provides full service in networks that do not meet the standards of fifth generation networks (“5G”), but at the same time offers the service as if it were a 5G network, investigate any suspected unfair commercial practices. Alternatively, it will forward the complaints to other competent authorities, for example due to a possible violation of the Act on the Regulation of Advertising, ”informs the CTU in its periodical.

misleading labeling 5G

Misleading labeling of 5G connections will probably be a big topic in the coming months and years. Customers will expect high speeds at interesting prices, so you need to be careful about misleading advertising. According to the CTU, the introduction of high-speed 5G mobile networks will bring domestic industry revenues of more than 59 billion crowns by 2025. The cost of introducing the technology will amount to approximately CZK 18 billion. The introduction is to bring 130 billion crowns to the entire Czech economy.
