Claudia’s best purchase of 2020

The end of 2020 is approaching and I think that we can all say that this year can be over quickly. But before that, I’ll tell you what my best purchase (a gadget with a plug, of course) of 2020 has been.

Lenovo launched its low-cost Chrome OS tablet with keyboard, the Lenovo IdeaPad Duet Chromebook, early this year. With this 2-in-1 device, Lenovo wanted to offer a multifunctional, lightweight but above all a cost-effective alternative and as far as I am concerned they succeeded. So I bought this versatile chameleon and never regretted it. Not even from the USI stylus that I ordered separately for taking notes or drawings.

Versatile chameleon

Versatile chameleon? Indeed, because Lenovo’s IdeaPad Duet is one of the few that succeeds in fully successfully taking on the tasks of both a laptop and tablet. This is due to the keyboard and kickstand that Lenovo simply puts in the packaging, so you do not have to pay extra for it.

The Lenovo IdeaPad Duet comes with a very thin design so that you can use it comfortably with its Full HD 10.1 inch screen without using the included keyboard. In that case it weighs only 450 grams.

Furthermore, there is 4 GB of RAM on board, which is enough for Chrome OS to run properly. Despite its fairly compact design, the device lasts for 10 hours thanks to the 7000 mAh battery. The IdeaPad Duet even has a connection for a monitor if the screen is a bit too small for the tasks you had in mind.

Lenovo has equipped the device with two cameras: an 8 MP camera on the back and a 2 MP sensor on the front. The device runs on Chrome OS and can therefore count on software support for up to eight years.

Conclusion from the review

The Lenovo IdeaPad Duet Chromebook positively surprised me. It is a compact device that you can easily take anywhere. It is also a versatile device because you can use it in many ways due to the 2-in-1 concept.

The design of the Duet is also striking. It is different from what we are used to. I really appreciate the dual-tone version of the tablet and the textile look of the kickstand. In addition, the battery life of over 10 hours is surprisingly long and Chrome OS very user-friendly and therefore easy to use. Then the most important thing, you can buy all of that for a very accessible suggested retail price of 299 euros (4 GB / 64 GB) or 349 euros (4 GB / 128 GB).

Chrome OS tablet + keyboard + kickstand

Is it all rose scent and moonshine then? No, because for heavy multi-taskers who like to work with more than 20 tabs in Chrome and use all kinds of apps next to it at the same time, the Duet can be disappointing in terms of performance. Also in the field of connections, you will have to choose one USB-C connection with the Duet. But if you’re looking for a device to primarily browse, take notes, watch Netflix, and play a game here and there on Stadia, then look no further.

The Lenovo IdeaPad Duet Chromebook has been the best purchase of 2020 for me. The device offers excellent value for money and is suitable for anyone who does not push their Chromebook to the limit. If you want more, the Duet also fits very well as a second device in your daily life.
