‘Chrome will soon be able to share text with a nice background and font’

Soon it will be possible to refer to a piece of text on a page by making a nice stylized image. You can choose from different designs with special background fonts. The feature is currently in a testing phase.

Share page text

If you share a link to a web page, in certain cases you only want to refer to a certain piece of text. That is why Google has built a function in Chrome that allows you to highlight text and share it with your contacts. When they tap the link, the piece of text you refer to appears at the top. The feature is already part of version 90 of Chrome.

Google is now building on this way of sharing content in Chrome, so an improved version of this feature is on the way. Android Police knows that. Now you’ll be able to present the text you’re referencing beautifully with a background and a custom font, as if it were one of those inspiring quotes you see popping up in your Facebook feed. In fact, you share an image that contains the relevant text, and the link to the correct place on the page appears at the bottom.

This is how you can set it

The function currently only works in Chrome Canary version 93, the unstable test version of the browser, via the well-known Chrome flags. Those are experimental features. The feature can also be seen via the flags in Chrome Beta version 92, but it does not work properly there at the time of writing. In the step-by-step plan below we show you how you can get started.
