China manufacturer is taking on even more of Apple

Xiaomi recently presented many new products and at the same time announced improved software. The Chinese company is aware of the problems with MIUI 12 and will soon provide an improved version of MIUI 12.5 as an “Enhanced Edition”. A feature has now been discovered there that is known from iOS.

Xiaomi is based on iOS when it comes to widgets

Android and widgets have belonged together since the birth of the Google operating system. Apple only recently jumped on the bandwagon. Of course, Xiaomi phones have always been able to use widgets, but now that you have a new role model, you are reorienting yourself. Xiaomi looks the same to Apple’s widgets instead of continuing to orientate themselves towards Android. The first beta versions of Xiaomi apps are here and they look like this:

So far you can only install the redesigned widgets from Xiaomi in the beta version of MIUI 12.5 based on Android 11. In the near future, however, these visual changes will be available to all users. Then not only on the smartphone, but also on the tablet. Only recently, Xiaomi presented the Mi Pad 5, which is visually strongly based on Apple’s iPad Pro. Now should be too the software can be adapted.

Xiaomi will distribute new software for selected devices

Xiaomi has already revealed which smartphones will receive the new software. In addition to the Mi Mix 4, the Mi-11, Mi-10, K40 and K30 series are also supplied with the update. When exactly the update will be distributed is unclear. It is also not known whether the new software will already be based on Android 12, which will soon be completed by Google. Currently everything is still based on Android 11. Why Xiaomi does not build this directly into MIUI 13 based on Android 12 and then bring an update for many smartphones faster, remains a mystery to us. This is exactly what bothers me personally about the Chinese manufacturer’s software strategy at the moment. We keep an eye on developments.
