CharacterAi creates characters from scratch

Do you want an AI assistant tailored to you? Then visit CharacterAI, because through this website you can give your virtual assistant the desired personality.

Ready-made characters…

Let Einstein explain your physics himself. Or discuss your latest perpetuum mobile idea with Nikolai Tesla. Philosophical reflections with Plato or his teacher Socrates. All too good? A conversation with the devil, if your mood is set to thunder after a bad day, and you would like to seduce an innocent nun? This, and more, is possible through Character.ai, the site of CharacterAI.

Or your own character with CharacterAI

What we described above are existing characters. The most interesting possibility is of course if you can create your own character. That is also possible, unlike other sites where you can only choose existing characters of, for example, historical figures. For that you have to build and train your new character.

This sounds easier than it is, but luckily there is a good tutorial on the site. The first step is to choose a name, and then a greeting. Choose this greeting carefully, because every time someone addresses your character, it starts with this greeting. You can also set whether the avatar will be public or private, and you can upload an image. Are you satisfied with the result? Then choose Create It! And lo and behold, the preparatory work is done.

Fine-tuning with CharacterAI

To give the user, or yourself, a deeper experience, it is advisable to provide much more information. There are some examples on CharacterAI. For example, you actually have to add a short and long description, written by a character itself. For example, do you want to bring an Italian nobleman from the eighteenth century to life? Then do not use modern language in the description. The longer the description, the more lifelike your character becomes.

You also have to choose a number of categories. For example, for our Italian count you shouldn’t choose technology or science fiction, but History. Want a time traveler lost in the eighteenth century? Then you choose this one correctly. You also have to choose whether you want to keep your definition public or protect it. The other fields will remain publicly visible once your character has been published.

One of the more special features of CharacterAI, which you won’t find in the public or paid version of OpenAi’s ChatGPT, for example, is the ability for the character to generate pictures. You can turn this feature on or off, and if images are generated, you can set the style.

Interesting and promising project

It makes sense that CharacterAI’s popularity is rising rapidly. Even this beta version, which is now free, is well cared for and offers a nice interface that allows you to develop realistic characters.

There are already some useful usage scenarios to think of for this. For example, are you writing a novel, and is a certain character difficult for you to empathize with? Then you can let the chatbot do the thinking. You can also use your chatbot as a personal assistant, as a chatbot for your company (or hobby site) or as a back engine for an adventure game.

At the moment use is still free, because it is a beta version. This will probably change in the future, because the chimney must be smoking from something anyway. Until then, you can enjoy CharacterAI for free.
