BMW allegedly changes electrical plans: small car i1 canceled

No time right now?

The BMW engine factories rely more on sedans and prefer to attack with the i2. They have also rescheduled for the larger rows.

The automobile company BMW is said to have changed its electrification plans and discarded some ideas. The automobile week reports. Accordingly, BMW has given up placing the “world car” i1 in response to VW’s ID 3. The model was too expensive for BMW and its return on investment was too low. Allegedly, the tour in Munich is therefore extending the duration of the current one, including the model upgrade, and completely eliminating the electric counterpart.

i2 is supposed to attack VW ID 4 and ID 5

Instead, it should address an i2 that is still to be developed. It would be a size bigger and BMW therefore also expects better opportunities in the Chinese market. The company is already producing the two-seater Grand Coupé there with a larger wheelbase, which could serve as the basis for the new entry-level electric vehicle. It is believed that BMW is developing a crossover model that will compete worldwide against ID 4 and ID 5 from VW.

i4 – the electric sedan for Europe

An E version of the 3 Series is also intended for the most important global automotive market. The long wheelbase model could hit the Chinese market as early as this year. Following the company’s own nomenclature, it should be called i3, but this place is already occupied. The existing i3 is to be sold until 2024. Supposedly it is Designation i330e in conversation.

In Europe, the i4 electric sedan is used instead. The Munich manufacturer has given it a completely new body and redesigned interior. The technology should also be largely new. The experts expect the production model to be presented in the middle of the year. Interested parties can then choose from batteries between 65 and 85 kilowatt hours and engines between 300 and 530 hp. All-wheel drive is also available. Deliveries are to begin in late autumn.

665 hp for the electric sevens

The next larger version is called i5 and is based on the new five-piece. All-wheel drive is part of the standard equipment here. A maximum of 110 kilowatt-hour batteries and 600 hp motor should be in the configurator. In the case of the i7, there are components with 120 kilowatt hours or 665 hp. It is scheduled to hit the market in 2022, the little brother two years later.

BMW thins SUV portfolio

BMW has already presented two electric SUVs: the iX3 and the new flagship iX. The manufacturer only wants to add one more model to the range, the iX1. The small SUV based on the X1 is due to come out at the end of 2022 and replace the i3. The iX therefore serves as a replacement for the X5, X6 and X7. This leaves the names iX2, iX4, iX5, iX6, iX7 and iX8 without an associated car.
