Beware of dangerous SMS messages, don’t pay anyone anything

Fraudsters abusing the name of Slovenská pošta are acting again. This time, Slovaks receive SMS messages about an undelivered package with a request to pay a fee. The Police of the Slovak Republic drew attention to the fraud on its Hoaxy and Frauds website.

An SMS message informs you that your package could not be delivered due to an unpaid fee. At the end is a link where you can pay this fee easily and quickly.

The attached link no longer seems to be working, so it’s not clear how realistic the landing page worked. We don’t know how many fraudsters asked. But we only know from the link itself that it is a scam. Not only that the web links of Slovenská pošta do not have such a format, but in addition the second part of the fraudulent link includes the name of the veterinary clinic Panev Vet.

Fraudsters have abused the name of Slovenská pošta in the past as well

Slovenská pošta has been the target of such attacks for a long time, Slovaks regularly receive various fraudulent SMS messages or emails on its behalf, and even fake job offers from Slovenská pošta have appeared. However, she has stated on several occasions in the past that she does not charge for her services in this way.

Ignore SMS messages or verify them directly at the mail

If you received this or a similar SMS, simply ignore it. If you are waiting for a shipment from the mail and you are not sure whether the message is genuine or not, you should check it directly at the post office or on the official website.
