Battlefield 2042 shows the first gameplay trailer: bombastic action and wingsuits

It’s been official since a few days, Battlefield 2042 will be the newest offshoot of EA’s popular multiplayer shooter. In the first gameplay trailer, players can now examine the battlefield.

Battlefield 2042 wants to go one step further on everything. Up to 128 players meet on gigantic maps. Developer DICE wants to give the players a lot of freedom and make the game as dynamic as possible. But it should also get more unpredictable with the next stage of Battlefields Levolution.

What does Battlefield 2042 offer?

One of the multiplayer experiences will be “All-Out Warfare” are called and includes with the modes Conquest and Breakthrough some core elements of Battlefield. This is where the battles with 128 players will take place, which incidentally will not be on the last-gen consoles. PS4 and Xbox One remain with 64 players.

You can find everything else important to know about the Battlfield 2042 Reveal in this article:

The weather is going crazy

One of the most salient features in the trailers shown so far are the weather phenomena. In the gameplay trailer is the massive sandstormsweeping across the map, easy to see. The visibility on the map changes greatly and affects the gameplay. In addition, there is also a Cyclonewho is strong enough Carrying away vehicles and helicopters. So that’s what all the wingsuits are for!

Nevertheless, players throw themselves into the storm with their wingsuits or use ziplines to get from skyscraper to skyscraper. Such weather phenomena can also be seen in the trailers on other maps, according to DICE not scripted run and let each game turn out a little different.

But not only the weather is part of the changes on the map. A rocket launch can be seen in the trailer. This can go well, but it doesn’t have to be. What consequences a failed rocket launch did not want to reveal DICE yet, but they should be devastating. The destruction of the environment will continue to play a major role.

Class system and new freedoms

As already known in advance, Battlefield 2042 will be with the Specialists have a class system that provides players with a special gadget and ability, depending on the class. Otherwise, the Weapons and other equipment can be freely chosen.

That’s also in the gameplay trailer Plus system to see. Players can change their weapon attachments while the game is running and adapt them to the current game situation. Also new is a direct vehicle drop for every player to move quickly over the large maps. This drop can also be used differently, according to DICE there is nothing to prevent the tank from being dropped over an opposing position.

Battle Pass and new content

Battlefield 2042 will be in the first year four seasons with one each Battle Pass to get. The Battle Pass will be in one free and a paid version give. However, there is new gameplay content in both cases, the chargeable Battle Pass should only contain cosmetic items.

On July 22, 2021 EA will release the mode Hazard Zone there is also another secret mode. A battle royale should not be there, at least for the launch.

My first impression of Battlefield 2042

With the year 2042, DICE has found a scenario in which it does more freedom for gameplay without becoming too sci-fi and thus too implausible. By renouncing the single player, however, they miss out on shedding light on the issues of resource scarcity and the refugee crisis and thus avoid politics and social criticism – what a shame.

The pictures so far promise a lot dynamic gameplay, Things like the Plus system and direct vehicle drop offer a lot of freedom, but it remains to be seen where the limit for vehicles is. 128 tanks sound tempting, but they also sound like a lot of chaos.

I like the freedom that the “new” class system offers. Due to the specialists there is still a distribution of roles in squads and players an incentive to work together and to coordinate the choice. But then the free choice of weapon and equipment is again an incentive to try out each class. I see myself as a sniper medic.

I also like how DICE handles sectors and territories on the new large maps. I think it’s a good way of doing something Bring structure to the battles. What I’m looking forward to is the new Levolution. Everything should be less scripted and the sandstorms and hurricanes sound like something that brings a lot of variety and gives the players new opportunities to influence the game. I definitely want to know if I can fly through the tornado in the tank and get a jet out of the sky in the process.

Here seems lots of good things from Battlefield 3 and 4 to come together, including some new ideas. I’m excited to see what the other two multiplayer experiences have to offer.

Beta and Release

There will already be a technical game test in July, but you have to be explicitly invited by EA for this. However, an open beta has already been announced, but there is no date for it yet. It is only known that pre-orderers get a few more days. Battlefield 2042 is slated for October 22, 2021.
