battle between the two companies is nearing climax

The battle between Facebook and Apple rages on, but actually started years ago. Thus, an accumulation of disagreements could grow into a battle between two of the largest tech companies of the moment.

Read on after the ad.

Apple vs Facebook is reaching its peak

Facebook and Apple have not been able to pass each other for years. The Wall Street Journal was given a behind-the-scenes look at Facebook from anonymous sources, showing that the tipping point already took place in 2018.

At the time, there was worldwide criticism of Facebook due to the privacy scandal of Cambridge Analytics, after which Tim Cook also expressed his envy about Zuckerberg’s company in an interview. Cook called for Facebook’s power to be curtailed through the government, because the scandal had proven that the company could not regulate this itself.

That went wrong with Zuckerberg. In a meeting, the Facebook CEO would have said that they should hurt ‘Apple and Tim Cook’. It took a few years for us to see some of this for the first time.

When Apple went into battle with Epic Games over the removal of Fortnite from the App Store last year, Facebook wanted to get involved behind the scenes as well. The company is said to have reached out to Epic Games, provided documents with information about Apple and promised to ‘help where necessary’.

In the year 2021, Facebook now seems to choose to fight this battle publicly. The company is said to be preparing a lawsuit accusing Apple of having a monopolistic position. Meanwhile, the relationship between the two technology superpowers is so bad that advisers and lawyers working for both companies would wonder whether it is still possible to advise both at the same time.

Tim Cook openly criticizes Facebook

While Facebook prepares behind the scenes, Apple regularly shares in interviews. For example, Tim Cook said last month that Facebook’s earnings model causes ‘polarization’ and ‘violence’.

In addition, Apple is about to deal a critical blow to this model. The Cupertino company would soon launch a new feature for iOS where users can choose whether their internet traffic and activity can be tracked by companies such as Facebook. Following users and selling advertisements based on that information is one of the most important revenue models for both Facebook and other social networks.

With Apple on the verge of taking a serious blow to Mark Zuckerberg’s wallet after a major dent in Facebook’s reputation, we shouldn’t be surprised if the battle between the two companies is before the end of this year peaked.
