Banking News September 2021: Improved applications, biometrics and children’s education

As every month, we now bring you a summary of the most interesting things that have happened recently in the Slovak banking sector.

ČSOB adds support for two foreign languages in its application

The Bank expanded the ČSOB SmartBanking mobile application with its English and Hungarian language versions. It is able to automatically suggest to the client a language that is set as the system language of the phone on which the application is installed. The language can of course be changed in the application settings.

The application is translated into English or Hungarian in its entirety, with the exception of some additional services referring outside its environment, such as Multibanking and the like. The bank’s website has been supporting English and Hungarian since May 2021.

365.bank came up with a children’s mobile application

The aim of such an application is to increase the financial literacy of children. According to the survey, up to 9 out of 10 children aged 8 to 15 have a smartphone and use mobile applications, but they lag far behind in terms of finance. The SMARTIE application is intended to help change the current situation and support children’s knowledge of money.

It also includes a payment card and a bracelet, while the application works in two versions – for children and parents. Parents thus have their child under constant control and have an overview of his expenses. The application also includes quizzes in the field of financial concepts, earning points for them, which he can exchange for a new application design.

We have dealt with the SMARTIE application, as well as solutions from the competition, in detail in Article 365.bank brings the SMARTIE children’s application. We found out what the competition offers for children.

mBank has launched the authorization of payments using biometrics

Biometrics is a unique characteristic of each individual. These include a fingerprint, the appearance of the iris, or facial features. These can be used with a smartphone to verify the payer or confirm certain steps. Ultimately, this will bring greater comfort when working with finances.

“In order for a client to be able to use payment authorization using biometric data, they need to enable this option in their mobile app’s settings. Subsequently, when confirming your payments or making changes to the card, the application will prompt you to place your finger on the smartphone, which reads its fingerprint, or to capture a face or iris. “

But it doesn’t just work that way. For security reasons, various control mechanisms are still in place in the background to verify the credibility as well as the amount of transactions. After reaching a certain limit, the pre-salen application will request a classic PIN code to confirm the transaction.

A novelty in the mobile application is the possibility to chat with an mBank expert, thanks to which clients will solve their requirements faster and easier. The bank also opened a new modern mKiosk in Bratislava, located on the first floor of the newly opened Niva complex.

Smart Banka INDEX

Every year, the MôjAndroid.sk portal prepares a nationwide survey in which readers can submit their vote to the best banking application. Within the survey is an important element of the so-called Smart Bank INDEX.

SmartBanka INDEX (SBI) is a system for evaluating mobile banking applications based on information obtained from their real users in a survey SmartBanka. It is a living system in which all positive and negative experiences and opinions of users on individual functionalities of banking applications, their overall usability and benefits for the bank’s client are taken into account.
