The Olympic Games also reached the ISS on Saturday. Shortly before the end of the games in Tokyo, a shortened, heavily modified competition portfolio was held in space.

Even if life on the International Space Station (ISS) is definitely demanding and exhausting, the astronaut and her astronaut colleagues always have one or two entertaining ideas. On Saturday they decided to hold the unofficial Space Olympics. It was carried out over four disciplines, namely “Bottomless Routine”, “No-Handball”, “Synchronized Swimming in Space” and “Weightless Sharpshooting”.

The French astronaut Thomas Pesquet recorded the competitions with his smartphone and shared them on Twitter so that people outside the ISS can also have fun in the competitions. If you watch the videos, you will see that the focus was clearly on having fun. Let the games begin!

The “bottomless routine”

Pesquet said: “Applause to Pyotr for finishing his routine without touching anything, a difficult achievement!”

Pesquet: “No handball – we had to adjust the rules a bit during the game, both sides had to invest a lot for the win.”
