Astro videos and zombie alarms: Google makes pixel phones better

Google has introduced new functions for its Pixel phones that will please photographers in particular. Among other things, astrophotography was taken care of, with which short videos are now also possible. Locked folders on Google Photos should provide more privacy. The Gboard has also been improved.

Google has new features for pixel smartphones presented, which make the phones “smarter and even more entertaining” should do. The focus is on new functions for the camera app.

Google Pixel: Astrophotography with mini videos

While astrophotography has been possible for a long time, Google now also offers the option of short videos with long exposure to create. With a tripod or an extremely steady hand, the movement of stars can be captured as a video. The feature is available on the Pixel 4 and newer Pixel phones.

Owners of a pixel also have the option of Create locked folders in Google Photos. From now on it can be selected directly in the camera app that some pictures or videos should end up in a locked folder. They don’t appear in shared albums, reminders, and other apps on your smartphone. They are protected by a password or a fingerprint.

If you stare at your pixel for too long on the go, you can optionally have Google remind you that the real world still exists. As part of the digital wellbeing mindset the mobile phone reminds you to keep an eye on your surroundings with a “Cheer up!”.

Another smart functions is now in the Gboard keyboard app to find. Here, for example, contact information can now be shared more easily and quickly, as additional information such as a telephone number or e-mail address can be called up via the clipboard.
