An AirPower and a remote charging station to catch up with Chinese competition
The failure of this charging station has not been digested by Apple. In 2019, after teasing the product, the Cupertino-based company conceded its inability to market the AirPower. The product supposed to charge iPhone, Apple Watch or AirPods. According to journalist Mark Gurman, Tim Cook’s company is looking to offer alternative wireless charging methods. The various Chinese accessories compatible with Apple have somewhat dampened the ambitions of the brand. Engineers are thinking about alternative technologies to convince the public.
What made Apple want to relaunch its AirPower? The Chinese competition may have had a big influence. Since the beginning of the year, many companies have been distinguished. First at MWC 2020, Oppo unveiled a device capable of charging a phone a few centimeters away from the product. Then it was Xiaomi’s turn. The Mi Air Charge station would be able to power contactless smartphones no matter where the product is in the room.
Now the task seems to be difficult. For the moment this kind of products are not yet marketed by the manufacturers. After that, Apple does not tend to compromise with the quality of its products. It is therefore not impossible that Tim Cook once again refuses the obstacle.
