Apple Music HiFi confirmed with Android app
Apple Music’s HiFi offer is once again confirmed and it is thanks to the streaming service’s Android application. This follows a rumor announcing a launch for the next few weeks. There were also some clues in the iOS 14.6 beta code.
Details on Apple Music HiFi thanks to the Android application
By digging into version 3.6 of the Apple Music Android application, 9to5Google discovered several lines of code in reference to the HiFi offer. These include “Lossless ALAC up to 24 bits / 48 kHz” and “Lossless High-Res ALAC up to 24 bits / 192 kHz”.
Other mentions explain the interest of the HiFi offer and data consumption:
- Lossless audio files preserve all the details of the original file. If you activate this function, you will consume much more data
- Lossless audio files will use much more space on your device. 10 GB of space can store approximately: 3000 High Quality Songs, 1000 Lossless Songs, 200 High-Res Lossless Songs
- Streaming lossless listening will consume a lot more data. A 3 minute song will be approximately: 1.5MB at Standard Quality, 6MB at High Quality at 256Kbps, 36MB at 24bit / 48kHz Lossless, 145MB at 24bit High-Res Lossless / 192 kHz
- Support varies and depends on song availability, network conditions, and the capacity of the connected speaker or headset
Launch next week?
Interesting detail: the beta of iOS 14.6 mentions Dolby Atmos and Dolby Audio, but this is not the case on the Android application. To see if the experience will be different between iOS and Android.
A rumor this morning indicates that the launch of Apple Music’s HiFi offering would take place on May 18. It is to be taken with a grain of salt in view of the source. But it is certain that the launch is not very far away in view of the multiplication of leaks.
