‘Apple is working on new HomePod with larger display’
The HomePod is almost four years old. It should therefore come as no surprise that Apple is working on a new version of the smart speaker. The display on the HomePod could get a lot bigger in the future.

‘Larger display on new HomePod’
The HomePod is best known for its good sound quality in a compact design. The speaker has a small touchscreen with which you can adjust the volume, and that shows with pulsating light that Siri is active. When you update the software or transfer a phone call to the speaker, the light changes color. However, if you place the HomePod on a high shelf, that display will not be visible.
Apple has now filed a patent for a HomePod with a much larger display. That discovered Patently Apple. The top quarter of this new version would be covered with LED lights, allowing you to see what the HomePod is doing from any angle. The illustration shows that the number of lights is limited. It is therefore not a real screen on which you can read information about the artist or the song. The functions of the display are unlikely to change.
What are Apple’s plans with the HomePod?
The HomePod, which never officially came on the market in the Netherlands, has not become a resounding success for Apple standards. The company even seemed to almost forget about the smart speaker, until a smaller version appeared last year: the HomePod mini. That makes it likely that Apple will eventually also release a new version of its bigger brother. Unfortunately, little is known about Apple’s plans with the HomePod, besides this rumor about a larger display.
