Apple is working on a new charging feature
Apple is working on a new iPhone function that will make it possible to charge other devices wirelessly. With the new function it is therefore possible to charge your iPhone wirelessly and, for example, to charge your AirPods with your iPhone. Extremely useful when you’re on the go and the battery of your AirPods is almost empty.
For the new charging function, Apple reportedly still needs to optimize the efficiency and speed of charging, as well as heat dissipation during charging. The new technology is probably comparable to MagSafe, which also turns your iPhone into a power bank.

In January it became clear that Apple is working with the Wireless Power Consortium, so that the new wireless charging standard will be based on Apple’s MagSafe. As a result, MagSafe can also be used on Android devices, for example. The collaboration between the WPC and Apple also ensures that Apple can better specialize in wireless charging of devices.
Charging function was planned for the iPhone 14 Pro
According to rumors, the new feature, which allows you to wirelessly charge AirPods with your iPhone, was originally planned for the iPhone 14 Pro. However, the new feature was not ready in time for release last year, so plans have been pushed forward.
This is not the first time this has happened: there was also speculation with the iPhone 11 about a function that allows the iPhone to charge other devices wirelessly. The iPhone 11 ultimately did not get this feature, because the wireless charging function did not meet Apple’s requirements. After this, Apple ignored the charging function for a long time, but the company now wants to introduce wireless charging.
New wireless charging function will not appear this year
It is unlikely that the new wireless charging function will appear this year. Many rumors have already come out about the iPhone 15 series, but Apple analysts Ming-Chi Kuo and Mark Gurman have not yet said anything about a new wireless charging function. It is therefore not expected that the iPhone 15 will already be equipped with the new charging technology.

It is quite possible that the technology will appear with the iPhone 16 next year. The iPhone 16 Ultra is expected to receive the new charging method. Of course, this still depends on the technological progress Apple makes, but the cooperation with the WPC is a good sign for Apple. In any case, Samsung has had the feature for years, so it’s about time Apple changed tack as well.
