Apple could present that in the second half of the year

The second half of the product in 2021 will probably begin at Apple with the launch of the iPhone 13 in September. The manufacturer has even more in its luggage – after all, there are still new MacBook Pros and more to come. Apple could imagine all of this.

After the new iMac 24 (test), the iPad Pros and the finally revealed Airtags (test) as well as the announcements of the new operating systems iOS and iPadOS 15 as well as macOS Monterey and watchOS 8, the next hardware slide is just around the corner at Apple. This year, Apple’s release cycle, which was thrown through by the corona pandemic last year, could go back to normal. iPhone and Watch in September, Macs and Co. in October or early November.

In September – rumor has it that it could be the 14th – Apple will probably hold its big iPhone event again, which is considered the highlight of the year for many fans. Like last year, Apple will again unveil four new devices: two standard models with 5.4 and 6.1 inch displays and two Pro versions with 6.1 and 6.7 inch screen sizes. Furthermore, at least the Pro versions should receive a 120 Hertz refresh rate, as Apple already uses on its iPad Pros – the interaction with the iPhones should feel even smoother.

From a purely visual point of view, the new models shouldn’t differ that much from the 2020 models, but rumor has it that the surface of the case could be more grippy and the notch smaller. In addition to Face ID facial recognition, it has meanwhile been speculated that Apple could bring back its Touch ID fingerprint sensor this year. As with many Android smartphones, it should be placed under the screen glass. Most recently, however, it was said that this function was not yet ready for this year’s models.

There should also be slight optimizations in the camera and the battery should be enlarged for a longer runtime. In contrast to the previous year’s models, the Pro versions should have the same camera setup and receive an improved ultra-wide-angle camera. There is also talk of a stronger charging capacity via wireless charging.

Apple Watch Series 7 with a new design?

In the course of the September event, Apple should also traditionally present a new generation of its Apple Watch. Indications of their imminent introduction come from the database of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), in which numerous new watch models with pre-installed watchOS 8 were submitted.

Rumor has it that this year there could be a bit of variety after years of almost identical design. The watch should still not be round, but the sides could be flattened more to match the design of the other, more angular Apple products.

Apart from the supposedly new design, the usual performance improvements and improved wireless connections are expected. In addition, the Apple Watch could get a new display in which the edges could be narrowed and the panel could be brought closer to the display glass. It is also speculated that the watch will receive an updated ultra-broadband function using the same technology as the Airtags. As with iPhones under iOS 15, the clock can possibly open doors and hotel rooms.

Macbook Pro 14 and 16 with fast M1X or M2 chip and redesign

Originally expected at WWDC 2021, it is very likely that we will introduce new Macbook Pro models in the course of the second half of the year. The fact that they are finished is shown by both the EEC submitted documents for new Macbooks with macOS Monterey as well as based on the inside knowledge of Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman. The Pro computers should come in a new, angular design and the smaller model should have a 14-inch display that will replace the previous 13-inch device. Despite the larger screen, the computer won’t get any bigger thanks to the narrower bezels. It will also speculatedthat Apple will use a mini LED display for the models, as they did for the large iPad Pro (test), which among other things provides better contrast values.

The new Macbook Pros will of course be equipped with a new, more powerful generation of in-house silicon chips. Apple is reportedly working on two variants with the code names “Jade C-Chop” and “Jade C-Die”. In contrast to the M1 chips, which each have four high-performance and energy-efficient cores and up to eight graphics cores, the new Apple silicon processors should have eight high-performance cores, two energy-efficient cores and, depending on the version, 16 or 32 graphics cores on board. In addition, the supposedly M1X chips supposedly support up to 64 gigabytes of RAM, compared to a maximum of 16 gigabytes of RAM in the current M1 processor.

Apple could also bring back the popular Magsafe magnetic charging connector; however, it is not entirely clear in what form. In addition, Apple is said to revive connections that were removed years ago, such as an HDMI port and the SD card slot, and to kick out the generally unpopular touchbar for it.

New iPad Mini probably in iPad Air design

After the iPad Pro received an update in April, the iPad Mini will receive a major redesign over a year and a half after its last small update. It will be optically based on the iPad Air 4 (test), with which the Touch ID sensor should move into the power button. Since this saves space in the frame, it should be narrower and the display a little larger – we are talking about 8.4 inches – without significantly increasing the tablet’s compact dimensions.

Despite the optical adjustment, the Lightning connector remains and USB-C ports are reserved for the upper device classes, it is said. Apple will certainly install a new processor and more memory, among other things.

While we are pretty sure about the idea of the hardware mentioned, it still looks a bit vague for other products. For months there has been talk of a new, light and thin Macbook Air, which should come with a higher quality equipment and up to seven colors.

Like the next Macbook Pros, the Air should be equipped with Magsafe charging technology and (two) USB-4 ports. A faster version of the M1 chip and a new graphics unit with nine or ten GPU cores will also be installed. The new Macbook Air could not come onto the market until the second half of the year at the earliest, but Apple could also take its time until 2022, says Mark Gurman.

Apple could also introduce new basic Airpods of the third generation in the second half of the year. Rumor has it that they are supposed to look similar to the Airpods Pro, but without active noise cancellation in order to keep the price up. In addition, Apple is aiming for a longer term.

Airpods with a major redesign in 2021 – Pro model without a stem until 2022

A successor to the 27-inch iMac is still pending. In April, Apple only introduced a replacement for the 21-inch all-in-one computer in the form of the iMac with a 24-inch screen. The large variant was deleted without replacement for the time being. It is rumored that Apple is working on a new version with a larger screen and faster Apple chips. The development was paused in favor of the 24 incher. Since the smaller model is now available, the other version shouldn’t be too long in coming.

According to Bloomberg, a new version of the Mac Mini is being screwed on. The small desktop computer is to become even smaller and have the same processor as the upcoming Macbook Pros. Both devices are unlikely to appear until next year.

Software releases in the 2nd half of the year: iOS 15, iPadOS 15 and more

Not only on the hardware side, Apple will publish something new in the second half of the year. The many updates to the operating systems for Macs, iPhones, iPads, watches and Apple TV announced in the course of WWDC 2021 will all be published in their final version in the course of autumn. If this year goes like it did before Corona year 2020, we can expect the release of iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 as well as watchOS 8 and tvOS 15 in September. macOS 12 Monterey is likely to be made available in a first final version in October with a little delay.
