Apparently people need a second Nintendo Switch

Many people buy a second Nintendo Switch, but why?

The Switch is a huge success for Nintendo. Many units have been sold and of course that makes a lot of money. In addition, people naturally buy a lot of games and accessories, but apparently buyers also need a second Switch at home.

Second Nintendo Switch

For many households, one Switch is not enough. Nintendo revealed in a Q&A session with investors that in this year up to March 31, about 20 percent of Switch devices sold were sold to households that already own one. Remarkable!

That amounts to a good 5.8 million consoles, Gamasutra calculated. And of course there are a few good reasons for this. The nagging at home of the children who both want to use the Switch, for example. To get rid of the nagging, many families just buy one more. The pandemic, of course, led to more people playing video games last year, so families played Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit much more together on separate consoles. Other people have bought a Switch Lite to use only as a mobile machine while their standard Switch remains in the dock.

Future

Nintendo itself says that there will be more demand in the future. “Going forward, we expect demand for multiple systems per household to increase even as hardware unit sales grow,” said Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa. “By region, significant sales growth continues in Asia, and we believe there is still room for sufficient growth in new demand in Europe and the United States, given the size of those populations.”

The general expectation is that Nintendo will release a more powerful Switch this year and many current Switch owners are likely to upgrade.
