App of the Week: Plastic

This week we have such a special app in App of the Week, you just have to download it, if only to experience it for yourself. Plastic is an app with which you can read very special comics, namely 2.8D. In other words: a kind of 3D.

Read digital comics

Usually when you read comics digitally, it’s just a kind of photo made of a comic, where you can see the whole page or window by window. That’s a great thing to do, especially if you read good comics like Batman or The Walking Dead, but what if you can read comics with windows that move? In fact, they look like 3D, because they move with the gyroscope of your smartphone.

Although Plastiek also has a few apps that cost a few dollars (such as RRR 1), you can simply download the Plastiek app itself for free. You immediately see an example of what those comics look like: and that alone is worth it. Even if you throw away the app afterwards or don’t like comics: Plastic is a great way to experience comics and it’s nice to know that it exists and you should experience it for yourself.

Plastic: with a Dutch touch

Plastics is a company from Bangkok that has developed A2.8DCF. That is software with which you can make 2.8 dimensional comics, in which the viewer determines the ‘viewing angle’ himself. What is a company from Bangkok called Plastic? Because it was started by Thawatchai Chunchachai and André Bergs. André grew up in the Netherlands. But as far as we’re concerned, Plastic doesn’t just deserve attention because it’s half Dutch: but also because it looks great and you can read very entertaining comics within the app.
