Antitrust: Apple may no longer be able to pre-install its apps
Will Apple be forced to no longer pre-install its applications on iPhone, iPad, Mac and other products? This is a possibility given the antitrust reform that is brewing on the side of the United States and which should hurt Apple, Google, Microsoft, Amazon and others.
David Cicilline, member of the Democratic Party and representative of Rhode Island, said to reporters that the new legislation would prevent Apple from pre-installing its applications on its devices. He said it is in connection with a proposal prohibiting technology platforms from giving their own products an advantage over those of competitors. “It would be as easy to download the other five apps as Apple’s, so they [Apple] do not use their market dominance to promote their own products and services ”, said the Democrat.
This proposal is one of a series of bipartisan bills that would impose significant new constraints on how tech companies operate, restricting acquisitions and forcing them to withdraw from certain activities. The House of Representatives Judiciary Committee will consider the five bills at a hearing next week.
Besides Apple, there is Amazon and his Prime subscription. According to US policies, it disadvantages some sellers who depend on the trading platform. As for Microsoft, which already had an antitrust case in the 90s, it will be up to the Department of Justice and the FTC to decide.
