Android users have been robbed of more than a hundred fraudulent cryptocurrency applications

The Google Play store was flooded with fraudulent cryptocurrency applications that robbed Android users of thousands of dollars. According to the Latest Hacking News portal, there were more than a hundred applications.

Fraudulent applications for cryptocurrency mining robbed more than 90,000 users

The applications have been unveiled by Lookout, a cyber security company. In her report, she said she found more than 170 fraudulent cryptocurrency applications, at least 25 of which were in the Google Play store. Most of the apps were paid for or included in-app purchases.

“Based on our analysis, we found that the applications cheated more than 93,000 users and robbed them of at least $ 350,000,” the company said in a report.

The company has shed light on the applications before, but has not noticed any threats. She only revealed that they were robbing users after a detailed analysis. The applications had a very low hash value, which should force users to purchase enhancements or offer them virtual hardware enhancements for money. However, the rest of the coins that the applications displayed were invented and often reset after the device was restarted. In addition, some of them prevented users from withdrawing money by frequently resetting their balance so that they would never reach the withdrawal limit.

Apps have been removed from the Play Store, but may still be in other app stores

Google has removed apps from the Play Store based on a Lookout report. However, only some of the discovered apps have been removed from other app stores. Lookout therefore warns users to be careful to check the application developer, terms of service, application permissions, and read reviews before installing.
