Android Auto Netherlands: finally officially available

It took a long time, but Google finally officially releases Android Auto in the Netherlands and Belgium. Previously, you had to install the service via a detour, but that is about to change. Since Android 10 (and 11), the service was already standard embedded in the operating system. The platform also appears in many other European countries.

As a result, Android Auto also worked in the Netherlands if you paired a smartphone with a car that supported this. Google reports that Android Auto will bring to more countries in the coming months (including the Benelux). If you have a device with Android 10 or newer, you don’t have to do anything. For example, users with Android 9.0 (Pie) or older can download a separate Android Auto app from the Play Store.

In Android 11, the service worked even a bit easier. Smartphones running on the latest Android version can connect wirelessly with Android Auto. This means you do not have to fiddle with a USB cable. Your car does need a WiFi connection (dual band) and a suitable infotainment system. If you don’t have this, you can of course just use a USB cable to connect your phone.

More about Android Auto

Android Auto is Google’s special operating system for the infotainment systems in cars. You connect your smartphone to the car, where the Android Auto screen is displayed on a larger screen. You can then use all kinds of apps, such as Google Maps, Spotify and WhatsApp.

With the popular chat app, the Google Assistant then reads messages to you, so you can keep your hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road. Also check out our explanation article about Android Auto and WhatsApp for more information.
