Android 14: beta 2 is available

Google is offering Android 14 beta 2 for download today. It comes a month after beta 1 and two weeks after beta 1.1. This currently concerns Pixel smartphones.

Beta 2 for Android 14

If we stick to Google’s notes, Android 14 beta 2 only fixes bugs and does not add new features. You will have to install it to be sure. In the meantime, here are the fixes:

  • Fixed a platform stability issue that could cause the UI to lag or crash, apps to crash, or the device to crash.
  • Fixed an issue with the fingerprint sensor that in some cases prevented adding new fingerprints for unlocking.
  • Fixed issues with UPI and biometrics that could prevent some apps from working correctly.
  • Fixed an issue preventing a device from being unlocked using a fingerprint after tapping a notification or choosing a notification action on the lock screen.
  • Fixed an issue on some devices that caused audio to play through the speakers instead of connected headphones.
  • Fixed an issue that caused home screen icons to be almost invisible.
  • Fixed gesture navigation issues occurring when using a custom launcher.
  • Fixed issues that prevented users from interacting with notifications in the notification shade.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause the device to hang after ending an audio or video call.
  • Fixed an issue where after entering and exiting picture-in-picture mode, the screen would flicker when apps were launched.
  • Fixed an issue where user restrictions set by DPC admins were not enforced in settings.
  • Fixed an issue where after taking photos with the Google Camera app, opening the last photo from the thumbnail in the app would briefly show a green colored shadow over the image.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause a battery percentage of 0% to be displayed after restarting the device, regardless of the actual charge level of the device.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause a device to crash and reset selected wallpapers before restarting the device.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented the Better Bug app from downloading bug reports.
  • Fixed an issue causing the back gesture to stop returning to the home screen.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause the Settings app to crash repeatedly.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented users from performing searches in the Settings app.
  • Fixed issues that sometimes caused null pointer exceptions for Input Method Editors (IMEs).
  • Fixed an issue that sometimes unnecessarily increased system memory usage.
  • Fixed system issues that could sometimes cause freezes.

Android 14 Beta 2 is available now on Pixel smartphones. You can get it from your phone settings if you have version 1 or 1.1. You can also join the beta program at this address. Otherwise, you can do a manual installation by getting the update file on the Google site.
